The old Spark offshore oil rig operated by Marathon. Spark is now decommissioned and not in service. It is one of the older oil platforms that operated in the Cook Inlet. It has seen many years of service, producing oil and gas from the Trading Bay Oil Field. The oil from Spark was transported to the Granite Point terminal in two 6" under water pipelines. The Spark oil platform is owned and was operated by Marathon oil Co.
It has not been decided how the decommissioned oil rig will be removed from the Trading Bay Oil Field. Spark is old and will probably not see new service or have an extended service life. The offshore operation environment is very harsh on a steel structure.
