Wiseman in the Brooks Range in Alaska.
An aerial view of the old gold mining community of Wiseman. Gold was found here at about the same time as gold was discovered in Nome during the gold rush. The small tight-knit community of people live here year-round. The landing strip has served the residents well over the years with regular flights from Fairbanks bringing in all the supplies a miner needed and taking out the gold dust. This area has over five small landing strips within just a few miles up and down the river, that's what gold mining will bring. The Dietrich River follows the valley down from Atigun Pass and joins up with the Middle Fork. Black gold in the form of the Trans Alaska Oil Pipeline runs down the valley on the other side of the river, the 800-mile long oil pipeline which runs from the oil fields at Prudhoe Bay on the Arctic Ocean all the way down to the port of Valdez in Prince William Sound.Add to Cart Add to Lightbox Download
